is a writer, teacher, business owner, father, and husband. As a writer, Brian is the author of the critically acclaimed novel Bed-Stuy Is Burning, as well as the forthcoming novel, The Body Politic (both from Atria/Simon & Schuster) and parenting book The Homework Handbook (from Avery/Penguin Random House).
Brian has written humor for the New Yorker’s Shouts and Murmurs and McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, as well as essays and reviews in the New York Times, the New Republic, Lit Hub, Salon, and elsewhere.
In addition to writing, Brian teaches 8th and 12th grade English at Grace Church School in Manhattan. He is also the co-founder of Teachers Who Tutor | NYC, New York City’s only tutoring company where all the tutors are classroom teachers with master’s degrees.
Brian suffers from chronic dizziness, most recently diagnosed as Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD). He lives in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn with his two usually-adorable sons and his brilliant wife, Alex Hardiman.
